Born in Hong Kong, 1974, Dr. Bell C F Chung graduated from the University of HK with a Bachelor degree of Psychology. His early research focuses on investigating the therapeutic effects of Chinese aesthetics in treating mental and emotional illness. After graduation, he joined the Hong Kong Police Force and worked as a Senior Inspector for 15 years. He becomes the only local Criminal Psychologist specialized in eyewitness memory, and is an expert in the use of forensic hypnosis in memory recalling. In 2010, he further attained his PhD in Cognitive Psychology at HKU. He is the only Chinese expert in investigating race bias in eyewitness identification, and his doctoral thesis has been presented in Greater China, Asia and Europe.
Dr. Chung was one of the most experienced officers in handling death investigation in HK Police Force. During his 7 years of service in death enquiry unit, he successfully tackled over hundreds of accidental and suicidal cases. He had studied numerous suicidal letters and remnants, and he interviewed over hundred of deceased’s family. Death investigation provided him a valuable experience in learning death and bereavement from a different perspective.
On November 9, 2004, Dr. Chung made a sharp turn in his life and career after meeting his own near fatal accident. He fell from 100 meters high while he was flying his glider plane in New Zealand. He had an incredible 11 minutes near death experience when his soul came out of his body. During his out-of-body experience, he reviewed his 30 years of living and had a deep conversation with God. He was being questioned about his meaning of life, and was given the choice to leave or to stay. Unable to decide, he was sent back by the Light and restored to life.
Though he survived in miracle, he was badly injured and sustained multiple compound bone fractures over his body. Medical doctors further declared that his right foot had to be amputated and his right talus joint was deteriorating from avascular necrosis. He failed all traditional and alternative treatments and fell into severe depression. He planned to terminate his life by suicide, and his faith and determination was replaced by pain and despair.
He refused to spend the rest of his life on wheel chair, and he regained his faith from the unconditional love of his mother and the Nature. He walked out of depression and became the best doctor of himself. He integrated the insight from near death experience and the expertise in hypnosis, and discovered the vital key of self-healing. He successfully developed the Sub-Conscious Therapy and opened up the self-healing power from sub-conscious mind. He not only saved his leg, but also reborn and recovered with freedom and wisdom.
If every man who comes back from death is meant to carry a special mission, then Dr. Chung is definitely a selected storyteller. He has transformed himself from a depressed and disabled patient to a renowned Psychotherapist and Author. By now, he is standing on his own feet again and his footsteps have reached more than 40 countries. Though he is still a glider pilot, a vessel captain, and a diving instructor, he emphasizes the importance of mental freedom. By combining the Eastern cultural aesthetics with Western cognitive psychology, he discovers that the vital key on maintaining body and mental health is by developing a “mindful-conscious lifestyle”. He now spends his career on conducting life education to the public, especially on death and self-healing.
Dr. Chung has published his life story in a unique flashback order. In 2011, seven years after the accident, he wrote his first biographical novel Life Returns (生命迴旋; 商周出版) – traveling through life and death in 2322 days, which reveals his seven years of amazing life-changing voyage in finding the meaning of life. In 2012, he revealed the secrets of his self-healing journey in his second book, Be Your Best Doctor (做自己最好的醫生; 大塊出版) – recovering from 144 days sub-conscious therapy. In 2013, he published his third book, Knowing How to Live from Death (我死過, 所以知道怎麼活; 時報出版) – meeting the Grim Reaper for 11 minutes, which decodes the secrets and wisdoms of near death experience.
